His Academic Journey
Dr. Sawaf’s academic path began at the University of Damascus, where his passion for learning first took shape. Later, he moved to Boston University to continue his medical education, driven by a deep commitment to knowledge and excellence, then earned American Board Certifications in Cardiac Anesthesiology and Post–Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care, along with advanced qualifications in Regenerative Medicine, Anti-Aging, and Pain Management.
Dr. Mazen Sawaf has built an extraordinary career journey spanning more than three decades, from America to the heart of the Gulf, blending medicine, innovation, and humanity. Dr. Sawaf founded and oversaw CosmeSurge Centers for Plastic Surgery and Dermatology, as well as Emirates Hospital in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, before establishing the Novomed Group, which has since become one of the UAE’s leading medical institutions. This was followed by the launch of Vitatech, a company supplying medical equipment and cosmetic products, reflecting his belief that medicine is not limited to treatment but extends to building integrated systems for care and innovation.
Despite his success abroad, Dr. Sawaf’s heart remained deeply connected to Syria. Driven by global experience and unwavering determination, he returned to his homeland to establish Syrex Holding, a group comprising several distinguished and diversified companies. Most notably, Syrex Consulting and Advisory is dedicated to attracting and facilitating investment in the country, contributing to rebuilding the Syrian economy and creating real opportunities for individuals.
Recognizing that true impact is incomplete without a humanitarian dimension, Dr. Sawaf also founded the Mafaza Educational Institute to nurture Syrian talent, Nafsi, a platform providing psychological support for employees, and the Ribat Al-Amal Association supporting underprivileged students and families

Dr. Sawaf wrote about public health in a style that combines science, inspiration, and impact on health, believing that knowledge is the first step in building strong societies aware of the importance of health through a collection of books, the most prominent of which was “It’s About Time”, which became an Amazon bestseller in 2015.
